weird amd 6700xt cooling issue, 5800xt vs 5800x3d etc

so awhile ago my pc had a 5700g, for whatever reason i got a good deal on it and was running it, i think its like a 65w cpu w/ onboard gpu at some point i got a 5700x3d from newegg and upgraded to that, gave the 5700g to my kid for their pc.  5700x3d dies 4 months later, get screwed by newegg, which is a whole other story you dont care about -- finally get the cpu replaced, got a 5800x3d (must have been out of 5700x3ds) anyways, during that whole time i had no cpu, i got pissed off and went and bought a 5800xt at the local microcenter.  holy shit.  that is a hot ass cpu.  i was not prepared for the amount of heat that thing put out and ended up going for a bigger case, more fans, bigger fans (140mm vs 120), etc, just to deal with it but then, after getting temperatures under control on the cpu, i noticed that the gpu was running stupid hot like 100c, and somehow the gpu fan was stuck at like 60%  using coolercontrol i was able to set a curve on it such that anyt...

gpus, thermal paste, undervolting, etc

 so after all this fucking around with my cpu i decided to turn my attention to my gpu i have a radeon 6700xt i bought used online, came in the original box and with every accessory, cable, manual, etc what i have learned people do this when they buy cards to use for mining.  they are ocd types who keep everything super neat and tidy and then run your card for like 1 year at 150 degrees in some cave somewhere also lots of mfgs like to factory overclock their shit so my card was both of these, thermal paste on the actual chip was hard as a rock and totally useless, the RAM had thermal pads on it and was fine.  i re-pasted it which was actually relatively easy if you can keep track of where all 30+ screws from the card go.  this made, i am not shitting you, a 20 degree difference in heat. also my card was factory overclocked from the base 2501mhz per amd's page to 2629 or something like that.  lowering it a few mhz to the stock freq made a huge difference too. the...

quick distro disappointment review

 recently had the mood to do a fresh install checked out kaos linux and was like woah this is cool, nice install (if you're a moron and need big pretty squares to guide you), nice default theme/skin etc.  really smooth install and then they have pacman so i was like cool its arch wait what i can't install anything from arch repos or aur and the kaos repos... suck... ok well maybe you can add arch repos... nope... creators say dont ever do this on pain of death ok well... next then tried manjaro, just cuz i had it laying around... man, i fucking .... this shit is always broken what's it gonna be this time 25.02 here.... install it... boom right out of the fucking box the initial pacman sync doesn't work ok well that was fun back to cachyos
